'Masculine' Birthday card

Now why put masculine in single quotes?  Well, as you can see from the card below, it is not typically a masculine birthday card.  For this I blame the lovely ladies at Sunday Stamps (just kidding)!  Their challenge this week (http://sundaystamps.blogspot.ca/)  was to use basic gray, primrose petals and summer starfruit.  I used this challenge as inspiration for my brother in law's birthday card.  You might think that I'm being lazy in not making him a more masculine card, but I promise, I'm not!  Lee, my brother in law, is amazing.  He is a man's man, but at the same time, he has a very caring and kind side to him.  He has no problem wearing pink (and he looks awesome in it!).  So I'm not settling!!!  I only wish that instead of summer starfruit, I could have used tangerine tango as orange is his favourite colour!
Just as a little local (Ottawa) tip, we celebrated Lee's birthday at Fatboy's Southern Smokehouse (http://fatboys.ca/ottawa-ontario-122311/).  I've been there before, but I have to say, even as a vegetarian, the food is fantastic!
The recipe for the card is below.

*primrose petals card stock (126841)
*basic gray card stock (121044)
*summer starfruit card stock (126839)
*primrose petals 3/8" stitched satin ribbon
*1/8" mini brads (122941)
*argyle embossing folder (127750) - would you believe I was lucky enough to win this recently in a raffle!!!
*pennant parade stamp set (W122740 / C122742)
*petite pennants builder punch (122361)
*itty bitty shapes bunch pack (118309)
*bitty banners framelits (129267)
*itty bitty banners stamp set (W126255 / C126257)
*I used my VersaMark (102283) to stamp the pennant parade stamp

Take care

Another birthday card!

A slightly belated happy birthday to my wonderful brother in law.  Although we celebrated on Monday, his actual birthday was yesterday.  He's a pretty amazing man and we are so lucky to have him in our family.  I will post the card that I made for him later on!  The card below is for the other twin that I mentioned in a previous post.  As you can see I followed very much the sketch that I used last week from Sunday Stamps (http://sundaystamps.blogspot.ca/).  It was a goodie though!!!!

*Primrose petals card stock (126841)
*Midnight muse card stock (126843)
*Patio party DSP (126916)
*Primrose petals 3/8" stitched satin ribbon (126844)
*Dahlia in summer starfruit (127556)
*2 1/2" circle punch (120906)
*2 3/8" scallop circle punch (118874)
*Patterned party stamp set (W123065  / C123067 )
*In Color markers (126856) - to paint the balloons

Although it is not shown, I also stamped the inside with the patterned party stamp set (the banner stamp that says "Happy Birthday To You") and I stamped this in midnight muse so that it would show up well!

Happy stampin'!

Lots of birthdays this month

Well what can I say, I am very lucky to have a number of friends who are celebrating their birthdays this month!  This week alone there are three (albeit two are twins so we do a joint celebration!).  The following card was made for one of the twins.

*Crumb cake card stock (120953)
*Retired DSP (but it screamed to me of my friend)
*Night of navy ribbon (also retired)
*Brights glimmer brads in real red (121006)
*Mixed bunch stamp set (W125535 / C125537) - the flower is stamped in night of navy and the centre is stamped in riding hood red
*Blossom punch (125605)
*3/4" circle punch (119873)
*Itty bitty banners (W126255 / C126257)
*Bitty banners framelits (129267)

Now I have a confession to make.  When the blossom punch and mixed bunch stamp set first came out in last year's mini catalogue, I wasn't immediately gobsmacked by it.  In fact, I didn't bother to buy it for quite some time.  I reluctantly gave in though after hearing a lot of people rave about it, and started to use it.  Would you believe that it is now one of my absolute favourites and a real go to for me.  It just goes to show that if I push myself out of my comfort zone it can be a good thing!!!!

Have a great week and thanks for checking in!

Pals Paper Arts Challenge

As you may have noticed, i have been trying to post projects three times each week.  But this week, maybe with a combination of the heat and wanting to stay in my stamping dungeon in the basement, as well as the excitement and positive energy of a friend who started her own blog this week (go visit her at http://stampinafter8.blogspot.ca/), I have an extra project to share.  All that, plus there's a lot of socializing going on in my little world these days!!

I used the Pals Paper Arts colour challenge (http://stampinpretty.typepad.com/pals_paper_arts/) as inspiration for the following card that I will be giving to some friends next week who are expecting twins!!  I used the monkey stamp from the retired Fox & Friends set to represent the two little boys.  The rest of the recipe is below!

*daffodil delight card stock (119683)
*cherry cobbler card tock (119685)
*early espresso card stock (119686)
*whisper white card stock (100730)
*early espresso stamp pad (126974)
*fox & friends stamp set (retired sadly but still one of my favourites!)
*itty bitty banners stamp set (W126255 / C126257)
*bitty banners framelits (129267)
*tiny tags (W118091 / C118592)
*jewelry tag punch (117190)
*1 1/4" square punch (119865)
*daffodil delight ribbon (retired)
*3/16" metallic brads in gold (119741)

As I was writing this I noticed that the stamps sets all seemed to be small (tiny tags, itty bitty banners!!!).  Certainly not intentional, but it is cute given that this is for a baby shower!!

I hope everyone has enjoyed a great weekend and that you've been able to fit in some stamping!
