My first few posts

Well, I am pleased that I finally managed to upload some of my cards for you to see.  I will forewarn you that I am unlikely to ever make as many posts in one week (let alone in one night)!  But come back and check regularly as I will try to post at least once a week.

If you're wondering how I develop my cards, I love using some of the sketch challenges that are out there.  Two of my favourites are Mojo Monday (http://mojomonday.blogspot.ca/) and Pals Paper Arts (http://www.palspaperarts.com/).  I am also very lucky to have some incredibly creative friends and family that I can bounce ideas off of and also discuss my projects with them.

Please do feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.  If you have an interest in card making and are thinking you might like to try it out, drop me an email and we can discuss options such as a class, a stamping club, hosting a party or some other ideas I have or a suggestion you might have.

Finally, if you are thinking that you would like some custom made invitations, stationery or other products, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss ideas.

Summer Smooches

Summer Smooches is one of the new suites that are available.  I previously mentioned that I love girl things.  I also love bright colours.  So with flowers and bright colours, what can I say, I'm loving this set!  Some of these cards came from my previous card class and some will be used in my upcoming one (I promise to never showcase cards in advance of a class again but I think given how new this blog is and the fact that I have told only a couple of people about it, it should stay quiet and not ruin any surprises!).

Summer smooches products are as follows:

*DSP 125409
*Bright Blossoms stamp set (W 125495 / C 125497)
*brads are discontinued but the brights designer buttons (119747) would coordinate really well too.

I did use some 3/8" ruffled ribbon, rhinestone basic jewels, tiny tags stamp set (W118091 / C118592), jewelry tag (117190) and some other recently retired ribbon.

Feel free to email me if you would like any information about the cards, dimensions or if you would like to get any of the products.

My First Stamp Class

Earlier this spring I held my first stamp class.  I was very lucky that my sister brought along some creative friends who I thoroughly enjoyed meeting.  The following are a couple of the cards we made in that class.  If you are interested in attending, feel free to email me.

This was a mother's day card (although any sentiment would do!).  The products used are as follows:

*Night of Navy card stock;
*Pocketful of Posies DSP (retired);
*Modern label punch (119849);
*Word Window punch(119857);
*Lattice Bigz die (115958);
*Floral Fusion Sizzlits die (115969); and
*Large Pearl Basic Jewels (125577) - I'm so glad these carried over from the Mini.

This was a wedding/anniversary easel card and the products used were as follows:

*Pretty in Pink card stock;
*Whisper White card stock;
*Wild Wasabi card stock;
*Twitterpated DSP (125406);
*Labels Collection Framelits (125598);
*Perfect Polka Dots Folder (117335);
*Scalloped green ribbon (retired);
*Decorative Label punch (120907); and
*Love & Laughter stamp set (W 125475 / C125477).

This is a "Thinking of You" / "Sympathy" card that I make.  The products used were:

*Whisper White card stock;
*Discontinued DSP;
*Paper Doily Sizzlits L (125592);
*Pearl Basic Jewels (119246); and
*Teeny Tiny Wishes greetings set (W115370 / C127802) - can I say that this is my go to stamp set for greetings.

Feel free to contact me if you would like any information about any of these cards or if you would like to order any of the products listed.

Butterflies, pearls and all things girly!

Likely best that I mention this early on, but I am a girly girl and I love all such things!  Butterflies, birds, owls and flowers.  Pearls are one of my favourite embellishments as well.  The card below is one of my earlier ones and uses non Stampin Up! card stock (gasp!) but I think shows off my love of delicate and feminine images.  I used the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die (118138).  This is a pretty inexpensive tool to add to your collection at $14.95 and it is one that you can use over and over again.  The background was embossed with the Elegant Lines Textured Impression Embossing Folder (119277).  These folders again are relatively inexpensive and are incredibly useful.  I often find that I turn to these folders for my backgrounds instead of DSP!

Birthday card

A very dear friend celebrated her birthday in March.  Together with another friend, we decided to take her and her fiancee for an overnight stay at a swish hotel and restaurant.  I had to prepare a card to present this to my friend, and below are some pictures showing the replica I made.

I used Pacific Point as the card base.  I used my beloved Labels Collection Framelits (125598) for the front.  I cut out a piece of DSP from the Beyond the Garden collection (retired).  On the original, I also tied a piece of ribbon with a bow to keep the card closed.

The first layer of the inside shows more Beyond the Garden DSP on the sides.  The Pacific Point card base has had the corners rounded using the 3/16" corner (119871).  In the middle, I stamped three pennants in Pacific Point using the the Pennant Parade Stamp Set (W 122740 / C 122742) and then cut each of the three pennants out using the Petite Pennants Builder (122361).  I affixed a brad from the Sweet Shop Collection (retired sadly) to the middle and finally strung some Island Indigo Baker's Twine (125575) through them.  I topped the middle section off with the cupcake from the Create a Cupcake stamp set (W 121915 / C 121982) - a personal favourite.  The sentiment comes from the same set.

This drop down section is where I prepared all of the details using My Digital Studio.  I printed it at home and it worked quite well.  Stampin Up! do have a fabulous printing service as well.

I was pretty proud of this card and my friend was over the moon with it.  It actually seemed to generate some more interest in my hobby from others who were at the party!

Birthday Easel Card

I get together with three other crafty ladies about once a quarter to make cards.  One person sets challenges and we then have to design cards to meet those challenges.  These women do inspire me and I get really excited about our card days.  So for the last such session, I designed the easel card below to meet a birthday card challenge.  Easel cards are one of my favourite techniques to use because I love the effect it has.

I made the base of the card using the Scallop Circle Bigz die (113468) which is available in the current catalogue.  The paper however is no longer available as it was in the Occasions Mini Catalogue that ended on April 30, 2012 (it was called Sweet Shop and I stocked up on it!).  I think the current Patio Party (126916) would be a good substitute.  The brads were also from the sweet shop suite.  You will see that I cut a number of circles and I used my circle cutter for this.  The 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch (118874) really came in handy for this.  The other punches used were 2 1/2" Circle (120906), Modern Label (119849) (look at the second tier), Extra-Large Oval (119859) (third tier) and the Cupcake Builder (121807).  I can't tell you how important punches are in my crafting.  Aside from the Big Shot they are one of my go-to tools.

Feel free to contact me if you would like more information on how I created this card.

Simple Sale A Bration Cards (Everyday Enchantment)

The following cards were made using the stamp sets and designer series paper (DSP) that was available this year during Sale-A-Bration.  I've almost run out of DSP now but I'll be sure to keep using the stamp set.  Contact me if you want details on any of the products I have used in these cards.

3 punch challenge

This is an awning card that I tailored to my liking and that I used for a 3 punch challenge card.  I used the word window punch (119857) to punch out the awning in different colours.  I then used the eyelet border punch (119853) to make the 'counter'.  Finally I used two decorative label punches (120907) for the greeting.  The stamp set was recently retired but was called "Crazy for Cupcakes" (111618) but remains one of my favourites!
